Fast Food Nation Chunk #2

In chunk #2 of Fast food Nation Eric Schlosser discusses how fast food companies would migrate to a region where there weren't any before and continue to multiply as the population does. He explains how people are affected by employment of these companies. He reveals how the fast food chains prefer to hire unskilled workers like teenagers or immigrants so they can pay them the lowest salary possible. On pages 70-71 he explains how fast food chains target their workers. For example, "English is now the second language of at least one-sixth of the nations restaurant workers, about one-third of that group speaks no English at all." In the next chapter Schlosser examines franchising and how people became millionaires from franchising.

clarification: What is the economic aim of the fast food companies?
application: Do you know any of the economic or social experiences of someone who worked in a fast food restaurant, or owned a franchise?
